Product Description
Geomembrane Shaped PDC Cutter takes care of the industry's number one frustration….unexpected chipping and stress cracks. When you take the sharp corners off and transition to a strong dome shaped design, you create a cutter that was built for toughness.
PRODUCT DESIGN AND TECHNOLOGY
The defining characteristic of the Dome Shaped PDC Cutter is its unique rounded design. When we say unique, we mean it in terms of shape and on a molecular level within the bond.
• Round Diamond Layer Interface: Because this PDC insert has a rounded surface, when subjected to impact the force is dispersed across the dome instead of a concentrated point load.
• "Claw" Interface: Much of the internal stress that occurs in layered materials can be fought by altering the PCD and tungsten carbide bind interface. The "claw" shape interface helps to decrease the residual stress allowing for a tougher, stronger bond.

Benefits of using Dome Shaped PDC Cutters:
- Crush Cut: The round shape does not mean less aggressive. In fact, the Dome Shaped PDC Cutter allows more force to be applied by the drill bit. Think of it like attacking the rock. More aggression = higher ROP and the ability to chew through those troublesome layers.
- Self Cleaning: Just as its rounded shape helps fight off impact, it allows for cuttings to flow smoothly up and away from the bit face. Less "mud-balling" as some like to call it.
- Int beds / Hard rock Inserts: When you're drilling into multiple rock layers, you want your insert to be able to take on that extra abuse. If your bit gets hung up in a harder formation, those standard flat cutters are going to shatter from the extreme shock. Dome Shaped PDC Cutters are more durable and wear resistant.
- Lowers TCO: Similar to point number 3, less breakage = longer-lasting bit. This means less time pulling out of holes to change bits and more time drilling.
APPLICATONS
Round Plated PDC Cutters are commonly used in:
- Rotary & DTH Drilling: Can be placed into cone bits as well as DTH hammers.
- Hi-End PDC Bit Placement: Can be used in High Level PDC bits. When specifically used as teeth on the bit, they can act as:
o-Shock Absorbing Teeth
o Center Teeth
o Gauge Protection
- Crusher Plate: Can be used for crushing as well as specialized teeth for digging.
MAKING OUR ROUND CUTTERS
Our round inserts start off as HPHT (high pressure high temperature) sintered PCD layers. This process helps make the PCD as durable as possible.
Custom Requests:
- Radius Variations: Depending on the formation, you may need a more rounded or less rounded dome.
- Size: Can be made in multiple diameters to fit your specific bit.
- Interface: Adjustments can be made to the claw-shape to further reduce vibration sensitivities.

FAQ
Q: Why would I use a dome when I can just use a flat PDC cutter?
A: Dome PDC's are meant for high-impact areas of the bit. If you have a zone that needs to crush through rock, rather than shear, you should use a dome. Think gauge or center of the bit.
Q: Does the "claw" actually help?
A: Most failures in PDC cutters happen at the diamond-carbide interface. Since this is an area of high thermal stress, our claws help "grab" onto the carbide. Increasing the surface area of the bond helps spread out the stress.
Q: Are these suitable for geothermal applications?
A: Yes. Due to the high vibration you would find in most geothermal applications, as well as the hard-rock, Dome Shaped PDC's have proven to work very well in those settings.
